Low Defect Coatings

Coatings in the focus of an optical system must meet very high defect requirements such as "no defect larger than x micrometer". Defect critical devices are:

  • Image sensors (CMOS, CCD, ...)
  • Displays (LCOS liquid-crystal-on-silicon, ...)
  • Image projection (moving heads, beamers, ...)

Optics Balzers has the experience, the sophisticated processes and the dedicated clean room to offer all the required coatings in low defect quality.

Low defect antireflective coatings

Schematic Low Defect Antireflective

Optical coatings on lids for high performance digital image sensors require very low densities of small defect sizes. Broadband antireflective coatings with low residual reflections and spectrally neutral performance eliminate ghost effects.

Low defect filter coatings

Low Defect Coatings

Filter coatings with efficient near infrared (NIR) and optional ultraviolet (UV) blockings tightly limit the sensors' response to the visible wavelength range. Details of spectral filter characteristics and wavelength ranges are optimized for customer specific requirements and applications.

Low reflecting chromium coatings

Patterned Chrome

Sensor internal reflections (ghost effects) can be eliminated by the use of an aperture on the sensor lid. Precision apertures are based on sputtered low reflectance chromium coating with a photolithography patterned clear aperture.

Sealing and bonding solutions
In addition sealing and bonding technologies can be offered - ready for assembly and if required with integrated optical aperture.
